Deep Listening Society is an invitation to slow down and hear an album the way it was meant to be heard: all the way through.
Each gathering takes place in an intimate listening room built around a hi-fi system designed for immersive sound. One classic album. Vinyl. Low light. No phones, no talking during playback. Limited t0 12 guests.
Before the needle drops, we step inside the story of the record — how it was made, what was happening around it, and why it matters. Then we listen together, one side at a time, before returning to the table for conversation.
For this gathering, acclaimed bassist, composer, and educator Avery Sharpe takes us inside McCoy Tyner’s 1981 album La Leyenda de la Hora — Avery’s first recording with Tyner and the beginning of a musical partnership that would continue for more than two decades.
Avery will share an insider’s perspective on the music, the sessions, and his life alongside one of jazz’s legendary pianists before we experience the album together from beginning to end.
It’s part listening session, part storytelling, part conversation — and a deliberate counterweight to playlists, algorithms, and music reduced to background noise.
