The story

Most burlesque shows begin with someone pressing play. Slow Burn Collective's begin with a count-off. It's a six piece band on stage with the dancers, and the difference is everything: every reveal lands on a live drum hit, every slow tease stretches exactly as long as the performer wants it to, and the musicians and dancers play off each other all night long.

For Halloween, Something Wicked turns that partnership loose on the music that has always made horror work, from torch songs for the doomed to the hits the whole crowd knows by heart. Down the catwalk comes horror's other pleasure: beauty with a chill in it. Feathers and fangs, capes and corsets, numbers as gorgeous as they are unsettling.

Slow Burn Collective is a queer live-band burlesque troupe that brings musicians and dancers together from across New England. Its shows are made for a crowd that wants to watch, then wants to move.

And when the band takes its final bow, the night is just beginning. DJ Rec, the Rhythm Rocker, takes over the decks and keeps the party going.

Come in costume. Stay until last call.
